Engineering Students Visits UAFC Proposed Building
Students from The engineering department visited the proposed UAFC church building which is still undergoing construction. Students involved were undergraduate first year students studying Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Archicture. Civil Engineering Students were learning the load distribution by various structural members on the building. they wre then tasked to analyze the load distribution of the building, from the roof trusses all the way to the foundation. They used the analytical theory from class to analyze the building to realize the bending moments and the Shear forces affecting each structural member. The analysis was meant to come up with the proper steel reinforcement design for members like concrete beams and colunms. Quantity Surveying students learnt how to make calculations for quantities of different building materials. Their task was to the quantify materials of the entire building super structure, including materials like concrete, brickwork, mortar, steel reinforcement etc. Architectural guys were responsible for understanding the clients brief, nature and form of the construction site, positioning of the site along with its site boundaries, understanding the structure as a whole with the materials involved in as much as aestheics are involved and also intergrating the building structure and site location with the environment through environmental impact assessment.
